Judas Horse: An FBI Special Agent Ana Grey Mystery ReviewDaring, resourceful FBI Agent Ana Grey has been in some pretty tough scrapes (North of Montana, Good Killer). However, the situation she's in with her latest adventure is more than a scrape - it's a wound that could prove fatal.
Still emotionally fragile following a shooting incident Ana has been through what is called "critical incident training, psychoanalyzing with other agents who have been through a life-changing trauma," and is deemed ready to return to duty. But she hardly has time to fall into step again when fellow agent Steve Crawford is blown to pieces while undercover investigating FAN (Free Animals Now).
Solution? Send in Ana. First she undergoes rigorous (an understatement) training at the FBI's undercover school from which she will eventually emerge as Darcy DeGuzman, a feisty, broke animal lover in a sixties leather jacket that "looks like Jackie Kennedy on the skids."
Her task is to infiltrate FAN, a cover for a terrorist group based in Oregon led by an unstable megalomaniac, Julius Emerson Phelps. She first hooks up with Megan Tewsbury whom she considers to be a warm hearted woman who will be her entree into the group. She's right - partially. Megan is an alias for a former Berkeley professor driven out and into the arms of Julius who is actually former FBI agent Dick Stone. Living with them on an isolated farm are Sara, a waif-like runaway and Slammer, an addicted miscreant. All are looking forward to what Stone calls "the Big One."
Actually, penetrating the group was the easy part for Ana because she soon discovers that Stone knows far too much. She is sure that someone, perhaps even a powerful figure at the Bureau is feeding him information. Who can she trust, if anyone? Perhaps more importantly who will protect her?
April Smith's dialogue is sharp, cutting like a knife as the story builds to its inexorable conclusion. Judas Horse is not only an action packed thriller but an imagined story so plausible, so current that it could be tomorrow's bold headline.

Ilse Witch (The Voyage of the Jerle Shannara, Book 1) ReviewAfter a long while of nothing in the way of Shannara, Terry Brooks has revived the dearly loved series. His new series begins 130 years after "The Talismans of Shannara" left off with Coll and Par Ohmsford. Now a castaway from a previous voyage to discover lost magic has arrived in the mainland 30 years after his departure. With the castaway is a map chronicolling his journey. The druid, Walker Boh, now known just as Walker, undertakes the perilous journey with an elite few aboard the sleek airship named the "Jerle Shannara."
This book is an excellent revival of the old series and I couldn't put it down for 2 days until finished. One problem is the author failes to make some of the main characters appealing but this is forgiven because of the outstanding storyline and mood throughout the book. You will be doing yourself a favor getting this, but make sure you have plenty of free time because you will call off previous engagements in favor of this book.
The one true problem is that the book leaves the reader so badly hanging that he is afraid he will fall.Ilse Witch (The Voyage of the Jerle Shannara, Book 1) Overview

Act of Treason ReviewWell, I just finished reading Act of Treason. I have been highly anticipating this book and did thoroughly enjoy reading it for the most part. I have to say I was disappointed with the ending and was expecting much more from Vince Flynn. I will not give away any spoilers from the book but I will say that as I read through the book, I couldn't help but get a feeling almost as if Vince Flynn was kind of trying to get the reader of this book ready for a transition. I didn't feel that Mitch Rapp was carried through this book as he has been in the series since he was introduced. I couldn't help but wonder if maybe we are being given the first stage of withdrawing Mitch from the Vince Flynn novels. I certainly hope not but there were some nuances in the book that gave me that feeling. It was good to see some of the guys from previous novels back in such as Scott Coleman and his team. After reading Consent to Kill I had to wonder what direction Rapp would be taken in. Mitch is being portrayed as getting older and while still at the peak of his game, I can only wonder how much longer he will be kept at that level. The first few reviews of this book have thoroughly stated much of the book so I won't go into repeating statements. With a new administration to deal with, I hope Mitch can get back to the action that carried him through his first few novels and made for such a page turning read. If you are a fan of Mitch Rapp, you most certainly won't be disappointed with this new book, atleast that is until you get to the end.Act of Treason Overview
