Last Man Standing ReviewWeb London heads up the FBI's super-elite Hostage Rescue Team, he is a master at what he does, but on their latest assignment he is not able to predict, or save them from the bloodshed that is about to erupt. Having his men assemble in an alley, Web feels confident that they will bring down the drug dealer they have set out to destroy, but within seconds they are ambushed...everyone killed, leaving Web the LAST MAN STANDING.
Trying to cope with the blame that has been placed on him by grieving widows, Web must try to put the pieces of that fateful night together. What went wrong? How were they ambushed? And who was the young boy Web saved in that alley, and why was he there?
As these questions plague Web he seeks the help of psychiatrist Claire Daniels, and with her help he will be able to confront his own tainted past, as well as answer the question WHY WAS HE CHOSEN TO BE THE ONLY SURVIVOR?
As Web's search begins the young boy disappears, and anyone connected to that fateful night will be violently silenced, but Web is confident he knows where the killer will strike next, only this time he may not survive the attack.
`Last Man Standing' marks the return to thriller writing for David Baldacci, unfortunately the novel is peopled with too many characters, and the plot is far more complicated than it should be. Characters come dropping in every chapter, and the in depth descriptions of weapons, and technical FBI jargon become a distraction rather than an important part to the plot.
As with all Baldacci novels his writing is clean, crisp and easy to read, and he CAN spin a good tale, only this time he has too much going on. As the old saying goes "LESS IS MORE".

The Cutout ReviewWhat I liked best about the book was the dilemma the main character found herself in. In most thrillers the central character is either charged with the task of find the villain or has been wronged so they have a personal grudge. What the author has done so well here is to create a central character that, for reasons that I won't mention as it will ruin the plot, is extremely conflicted about finding out the truth. I think this creates a much more real character with conflicting motivations which makes the plot that much more interesting.
She also gives you a lens to view the problems in the Balkans that is, even though it is fiction, probably much more accurate and in depth then the one you get through the media.
Lastly, it is a real page-turner. And those are really rare. The Cutout Overview

Act of Treason ReviewWell, I just finished reading Act of Treason. I have been highly anticipating this book and did thoroughly enjoy reading it for the most part. I have to say I was disappointed with the ending and was expecting much more from Vince Flynn. I will not give away any spoilers from the book but I will say that as I read through the book, I couldn't help but get a feeling almost as if Vince Flynn was kind of trying to get the reader of this book ready for a transition. I didn't feel that Mitch Rapp was carried through this book as he has been in the series since he was introduced. I couldn't help but wonder if maybe we are being given the first stage of withdrawing Mitch from the Vince Flynn novels. I certainly hope not but there were some nuances in the book that gave me that feeling. It was good to see some of the guys from previous novels back in such as Scott Coleman and his team. After reading Consent to Kill I had to wonder what direction Rapp would be taken in. Mitch is being portrayed as getting older and while still at the peak of his game, I can only wonder how much longer he will be kept at that level. The first few reviews of this book have thoroughly stated much of the book so I won't go into repeating statements. With a new administration to deal with, I hope Mitch can get back to the action that carried him through his first few novels and made for such a page turning read. If you are a fan of Mitch Rapp, you most certainly won't be disappointed with this new book, atleast that is until you get to the end.Act of Treason Overview
