365 Crochet Stitches a Year Perpetual Calendar ReviewThis fantastic calendar is full of stitch patterns, which you can use for any crochet project you desire..... afghans, scarves, hats, sweaters, etc. This calendar does NOT include projects, just stitches, but the possibilities are endless. Wouldn't it be fun to make a sampler afghan using a different stitch pattern for each block?
Each day's entry is complete and does not run into multiple days. And there is one entry for each and every day of the year, including February 29th! Don't let the title of the calendar scare you off in a leap year.
Because the calendar is a perpetual calendar, you will not find days of the week, nor will you find holidays listed, since many holidays move around from year to year. What you will find are holiday themed stitch patterns on certain days, such as Irish Fans for March 17th and Deck the Halls for December 25th. And you will also find a great photo of the stitch pattern. And being a perpetual calendar, you can start using it the day it arrives.
Some stitch patterns are very classic looking and others are quite unique. Many stitch patterns employ familar stitches such as popcorns, shells, fans, front & back posts, V-stitches, picots, but they do so in a variety and clever ways. What a pleasure to look through 366 stitch patterns! section on basic to intermediate crochet techniques, well illustarted with good diagrams Then comes a collection of fun to make Irish crochet type designs with roses and leaves, followed by a good section on motifs worked in the round. A nice selection of textured stitches, many with variations, is given with both written and symbol instructions. Color blending is covered, a nice surprise, as well as a good coverage of surface crochet and free style. The publisher should have used a better title to describe the varied
contents of this book. Symbol diagrams are well done, color close-ups of stitches show lots of detail. The Crochet Stitch Bible ReviewThere are 200 crochet stitches in this spiral bound book which makes it easy to use while crocheting. Useful index with all the stitches by name. Each stitch has illustration, instructions and chart with international symbols. Also a stitch key on right side of every odd numbered page which means you can read the charts as the symbols are right there. Stitches are grouped into broad categories such as mesh and filet. Also more details in back about the symbols and abbreviations. The terms are American with a comparison to the English in the back. My one criticism is that the actual pictures of the stitches are very dull and small when more colors would certainly have brightened up the book. Hopefully Barnden will be persuaded to bring out a second volume with more stitches. Very useful important addition to the growing crochet stitch collection.The Crochet Stitch Bible Overview

154 Crochet Wave Patterns (Leisure Arts #4312) ReviewI ordered this book from Amazon without having seen it in the store first based on the description, and the pictures on the front and back cover. I expected to receive a book with a ton of wave patterns......and that is exactly what I got. This book contains "154 Wave Patterns", and one thing I like about this book is the pretty modern color combinations. The color combinations featured throughout the book are similar to those used on the covers, they are really inspiring to look at. There is a very good variety here as well. Some times with these books that contain 100+ patterns for anything you will find that a lot of the patterns are basically the same, except for a few stitch changes. The Complete Photo Guide to Crochet: *All You Need to Know to Crochet *The Essential Reference for Novice and Expert Crocheters *Comprehensive Guide ... Charts, and Photos for 200 Stitch Patterns ReviewI just received this book yesterday. It is amazing. Beautiful, clear photographs. Easy to understand explanations. Lots of inspiration. I am currently working my first motif project. I already used the tip on a better way to fasten off motifs. This is also my first major project with seams. The book shows a number of techniques with clear pictures and instructions. Some other helpful techniques include button holes and zippers.
I consider myself an intermediate crocheter. This book provides new inspiration to challenge myself to explore more intricate projects and different types of crochet. The book is a comprehensive guide to so many types of crochet, including various lace techniques and freeform crochet.
Depending on the person, this many not be the book for an absolute new beginner. While there are instructions for the basics, the rest may be overwhelming. I suggest you first try your hand at a little crocher, then jump into this book for inspiration.
Note: While the book has instructions for a number of completed projects as examples, its main focus is techniques. It's up to you to apply the techniques to your designs. This is not something I've done in the past, but it's where I want to challenge myself to go.
For the price, this book is an absolutely incredible value.
