Molly and the Movie Star (American Girls Short Stories) ReviewThis book is very good for younger girls who love the American Girls but do not feel ready for a full-length Molly book, or a book to take on a short trip and challenge a girl who is learning to read. Molly, nine years old during WWII, has sold War Bonds after hearing her idol, a movie star, tell her to support the country. Molly makes plenty of money selling the bonds and can't wait to present it in person to her favorite actress when she comes to town. Frightened that the money might be taken, she hides it in a clever way she saw on one of her idol's own movies for safekeeping. But when it comes time to present the money, Molly can't remember where she hid it! Will she turn her efforts into a disaster or will the day be saved? Read about Molly's adventure in this excellent short-story book.Molly and the Movie Star (American Girls Short Stories) Overview

Nanny McPhee and the Big Bang. (Popcorn Elt Primary Readers) ReviewThis book has a completely different feel from the movie. The movie is visual and appealing and told on film as only a good movie could do.
However, the book version comes across in a completely different way. Details are added in, and the telling of the story keeps the tone, but adds a bit more. The story is wonderful and reminds me a lot of Mrs. Piggle-Wiggle (the line drawings are similar to the style of those as well).
So whether you've seen the movie or not, the book is a great story about kids who learn to work together and solve their own problems, under the scrutiny of Nanny McPhee.
Another very unique feature is Emma Thompson's film diary. Thompson not only stars in the film, but wrote the screenplay, so her notes are from both of those perspectives. Young people (or old ones!) interested in learning more about the film-making process will find this interesting.
The diary entries are interspersed in the text of the story, which might annoy some readers, but I thought the chatty tone of the diary and the story blended well together. Because of this tone, the book would be an excellent story to read aloud.
Content Note: There are some things included in the film diary that definitely seemed to target an older audience, including some mild swear words (d*mn and h*ll), which slightly concerned me and parents of younger children will want to note.Nanny McPhee and the Big Bang.
