Henry and Mudge and the Big Sleepover (Henry & Mudge Books (Simon & Schuster Hardcover)) ReviewLevel 2 readers are for kids reading independently and Henry And Mudge And The Big Sleepover provides another Henry and Mudge story with fine short chapters, varied sentence structure, and adventure. Here Henry is invited to a sleepover party and nighttime adventures seem to assure nobody will get to sleep, especially when a father decides to participate. Sucie Stevenson's drawings are fun embellishments.

Good Dog. Stay. ReviewAnna Quindlen has written a succulent tribute to her beloved black Lab, Beau. It's funny, and fond, sentimentally delightful, a fitting honor to a dog who lived a long life.
There isn't any whining here. She makes you laugh as she recalls the pup who spent so many happy days and when he grew old could still get excited about the scent of pork roast in the oven.
When it was his time to go they said goodbye with dignity. The many photos of dogs enhance this pithy homage to a wonderful dog.
Quindlen is not adequately appreciated for her sense of humor. She is one of our leading literary stylists. This book will be treasured by many dog lovers.Good Dog. Stay. Overview

Gone to the Dogs ReviewLydia Keane, former hot babe, now reincarnated into the form of a Pembroke Welsh Corgi, is not a happy dog. Given a chance to right previous wrongs, Lydia, now known as Piggy, is on her third owner, Nell Jordan. Nell is proving to be boring with a capital B, until she becomes guardian to a huge sum of money that Piggy has inherited from a recently deceased cranky old coot who Piggy visited in her new job as a therapy dog. Who would've guessed that the elderly Frank Cramer was sitting on a fortune? Certainly neither Nell or Piggy, the latter frustrated to the extreme because she isn't capable of getting her hands...er...paws, on all of that lovely money. Instant fame ensues, with both Nell and Piggy looked upon as nefarious gold-diggers in the eyes of Frank's estranged daughter, and others.

Enter heroic Dan Travis, the handsome, sexy photographer who rescues both Nell and Piggy from their crashed car. Piggy is at once suspicious of this hunky do-gooder. Who on earth would be interested in plain-Jane, dull Nell, she wonders? When Dan becomes a regular visitor of Nell's, following her around claiming he's also a journalist who wants an exclusive on the unusual inheritance story, Piggy gets her fur up. And does she ever. Trying to ferret out Dan's true intentions, Piggy is far from willing to let him hone his radar onto the now rich Nell. What ensues is a hysterical story of Dog vs. Man.

Ms. Carmichael writes flawless characterization from human to dog, with an excellent flair for humor. The reincarnation element adds a welcome twist to what is already an enthralling storyline. Secondary characters are as in-depth and intregal as the main. A sub-plot involving Dan's mother and her long-lost love adds an unexpected and poignant side to this intriguing tale.

Emily Carmichael is a wonderful writer! I missed the first in this series about Lydia/Piggy called FINDING MR. RIGHT, but plan on getting it, soon! I'm sure it will go right next to my other keepers of hers, which include A DIAMOND IN THE RUFF (the second story), and now, GONE TO THE DOGS.

For a great read to break up the winter doldrums, I highly recommend GONE TO THE DOGS. Don't miss it!Gone to the Dogs Overview

No Dogs Allowed ReviewNo Dogs Allowed! By: Bill Wallace
Reviewed By: A. Quizon (Firecracker)
Period: 1
Kristine is a very fun, happy, young girl who surely loves her pet, Dandy. Dandy was her horse that she loved so much, and played with her every single day. Kristine's horse was part of her family. Then suddenly a heartbreaking tragedy struck-Dandy died. Of course this was so heartbreaking to the family, and especially to Kristine. Anyways, Kristine's birthday was coming up, and she still had not gotten over the incident about Dandy. She thought that it was way to heartbreaking for her whenever she thinks about this, so she made a decision: Kristine decided not to ever get a pet again, because she couldn't afford to get her heart ripped out again! Then, on Kristine's birthday, she receives a present from her father. She opens the present with much excitement. When she sees what the surprise is, she turns so furious because it was pet dog! She started to think of Dandy more every time she looked at it. She didn't know how to deal with this problem. Along with the dog, she had a new baby sister coming and she would have a lot to look after. As days go by, Kristine starts thinking of how cute her dog looks. She starts loving it more and more, and thinks of Dandy less, now that she has this dog in her hands.
I like many parts of this book, especially when Kristine gets her dog. I don't like her reaction though. I would really want the same thing to happen to me too. "Look, Kristine. She's all yours." Papa's voice was so excited all around. That was when Kristine's papa gave her the dog for a present. I wish someone gave me a dog as a present sometime.
What I dislike about this book is Kristine's reaction of when she gets the dog. "I don't want a puppy!" I blurted out as I whirled around to face him. Kristine was so mean to her papa, and made him feel bad. She should at least be nice to him for trying to cheer her up about the Dandy incident. I thought that this was also a heartbreaking moment for her papa, which was sad.
My most favorite part of the book was when Kristine starts liking her dog, and actually starts being nice to it. She got to experience loving an animal again. I also like all the description about the dog. It shows that the dog is very cute, cuddly, and playful. My least favorite part of the book was when Kristine was being so mean to her puppy at first. I felt so sorry for the dog because its owner was being so mean to it. Other than that, this book was fantastic! No Dogs Allowed Overview

Shaping Success (The Education of an Unlikely Champion) ReviewIn this book, Susan Garrett documents the story of her agility dog, Buzz. Garrett describes the problems, the challenges, and the training techniques she used. As I read this book, I highlighted the training tips I thought I could use on my dog. Nearly every other page is highighted.
Garrett starts with puppy games. She provides training exercises and tips for every obstacle and contact. One appendix is step-by-step for shaping the weave poles.
The book is easy to read as Garrett shares the trials and tribulations of living and working with a high-energy/most-people-think-I'm-a-nut dog. The book is also an informative read for anyone who uses clicker training, regardless of the reader's interest in agility.Shaping Success (The Education of an Unlikely Champion) Overview

Rebel in Blue Jeans ReviewRebel Ferguson's life has changed drastically. Her mother has left Rebel and her father for a drummer in a band. Rebel's two best friends, Will and Sully have decided to do everything in their power to cheer her up. As her father tries to deal with the situation, taking credit for part of the break up, Rebel feels her life is spinning out of control. First there is the strange behavior of Will and Sully, especially when it concerns college boy Rick. Next there is the mandatory visit with her mother and new boyfriend Bo.
Rebel is determined to make her mother pay for choosing Bo over her and her father. She begins to call her mother Liz. This is a book that you must read. It rang so true. I have seen my middle school students go through these frustrating stages just like Rebel as they deal with a divorce in their family. I can only imagine if they were older and had to deal with the "boy" issues Rebel is dealing with. I sat with the book and read it from cover to cover. I have so enjoyed it. I am so glad I had the opportunity to read and review this book and I'm looking forward to reading a lot more by this author.
